Recently, I had the distinct honor of being invited to the highly selective Society of Urologic Prosthetic Surgeons (SUPS) Annual Education Summit, held from August 9-11, 2024, at the Delano Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. This exclusive event was attended by a limited number of SUPS members, offering an invaluable opportunity to engage in comprehensive discussions and presentations on the latest advancements in prosthetic surgery.
The summit featured in-depth seminars covering current updates on prosthetic devices, including new innovations soon to be introduced to the market. Important research findings on microbial impacts, antibiotic usage, and overall infection prevention were also presented. Additionally, the sessions included detailed discussions on proper coding and billing practices for artificial urinary sphincters, followed by a roundtable discussion that allowed for expert insights and advice from attendees.
Another very interesting and insightful session focused on enhancing patient interactions and communication skills, which provided valuable strategies for improving patient care. Breakout sessions were also conducted, addressing future education, policy development, social media strategies, and the criteria for induction, maintenance of membership, and emeritus status, particularly in relation to the newly proposed and adopted Fellow of Genitourinary Prosthetic Surgery designation.
Overall, the meeting was a resounding success, marked by active participation from some of the leading urologic prosthetic surgeons in the country. The event also provided ample opportunities for professional fellowship and camaraderie during the dinners on Friday and Saturday evenings. I am grateful to be a part of such a distinguished organization, dedicated to advancing the field of prosthetic surgery for the benefit of our patients.
